RK 62 : The Modern Ak of Finnish Military

 

The RK 62 is an assault Rifle manufactured by Valmet and Sako.It is the standard issued Service Rifle Of  Finnish Armed forces.In the 1950's the Finnish military recognised the need for the new military assault rifle,They bought some Polish licensed version of Ak 47 in 1956 and they reversed engineered the Ak 47 and created the first prototypes of Finnish assault rifle named Rk.60.

Rk.60 had some external differences from Ak 47. It had tubular metallic buttstock, plastic handguard which did not covered the gas tube and Plastic pistol grip. After military testing the Rk.60 lacked the triggerguard and has three prong flash hider at the muzzle. The finns replaced original sights with hooded post front sight atop of the gas chamber, the tangent rear sight was replaced by an aperture sight, mounted at the rear of the receiver cover. Both front and night sights had folding "night sights", with the white dots.

 After the testing and modifications including new slightly redesigned handguards and restoration of the triggerguard, the rifle was adopted as the Rk.62.

The state-owned Valmet company, the manufacturer of the Rk.62, designed some further modifications, some of which were adopted for Finnish military service and acquired by Finnish Army.

Current service Variants of Rk 62:-

RK 62 95 TP:- It has a folding stock and rails for optics,used by finnish border guard.

 RK 62 M1:- Rk 62 M1 has a Telescopic adjusting stock,renewed fire selector,

optical sight mount,adapter for mounting accessories and new tactical sling.

RK 62 M2:- Rk 62 M2 has a more extensive modernsation like Telescopic adjusting stock,renewed fire selector optical sight mount,handguard for mounting accessories,flash suppressor,new tactical sling and a forward pistol grip.

RK 62 M3:- similar to M2 but with OD Green Cerakote surface treatment and equipped with a silencer and a breach muzzle brake.
