What is IRST pod ?
An IRST system is a way of detecting aerial vehicles which give off infra red radiations at long range. It's Passive Nature makes it unique, it can act without emitting it's own radiations. In simple words it is a Thermographic Camera, which is mounted at just down of canopy. The range compared to a radar is limited. Within range, angular resolution is better than radar due to the shorter wavelength.

● F35 is equipped AN/AAQ37DAS IRST system, which consists of 6 IR sensors for full 360⁰ coverage, Providing imaging for Day/Night with the range of near 1200 Km.
