Prithavi 2 is the missile made by the India Government, under the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program ( IGMDP ). The development of Prithvi 2 began in 1983. The 3 versions of Prithvi have been tested. Prithvi is the Indian's 1st indigenously made missile.
All about Prithavi 2 Missile
Prithvi is a surface to surface short range ballistic missile. Prithvi 2 is the 2nd form Prithavi missile. Prithvi 2 produced in Jan , 1996 by Defence Reaserch & Development Organization (DRDO). The Mass , length & diameter of P2 is 4600 kg , 8.56 meters & 110 cm respectively. Operational range of P 2 is about 250 to 350 km and Engine is Single Stage liquid rocket with liquid fuel. The warhead is of Prithvi 2 is High explosives, penetration, cluster munitions, fragmentation, chemical and Nuclear weapons. Prithvi 2 is SS-25 variant of the Indian Air Force.
Trials of Prithvi 2
The missile was inducted into India's Forces Command in 2003 and it was 1st missile developed under IGMDP. The 1st failed test of Missile was in September of 2010. It happened at the Integrated Test Rang at Chandipura on Dr. Abdul Kalam island at Began bay in Odisha.
